6 Easy Steps to Inspect Your Roof After a Storm
Inspecting your roof after a storm is as easy as walking outside and looking up. The important thing is that you don’t wait to do it. While you can always submit a claim to insurance within a specified timeframe, you don’t want to leave damage untreated for long.
Inspect your roof right after the storm
Walk around your house (we do not recommend you go on your roof) and look at your roof from all sides. No need to go out in the storm, stay safe until it’s over!
Look for signs of wind damage
Wind damage is pretty easy to spot. Be on the lookout for torn, wavy, warped or missing shingles.
Look for signs of hail damage
Hail damage will take the form of pock marks or dents in your shingles. These may be a bit harder to see from the ground. And, it’s not always visible right away. So, if you know you heard hail during the storm but don’t see any damage, that does not mean it’s not there. Call us to come take a look — it’s free.
Look for signs of water damage
If you have attic access, take a quick peek at your ceiling to ensure there’s no signs of water penetrating the sheeting and entering your home.
Document what you find
Take lots of photos of the damage. Anything that looks amiss, regardless of how subtle, could be a clue of underlying problems. Make sure you take photos in perspective with something recognizable in the foreground, that way it’s easy to spot where on the roof the damage has occurred.
